Social isolation has been linked to mental illness, emotional distress, suicide, the development of dementia, premature death and poor health behaviours (smoking, physical inactivity and poor sleep) – as well as biological effects, including high blood pressure and impaired immune function. Social isolation is also associated with psychological distress and sustained decreases in feelings of wellbeing. Conversely, more frequent social contact is associated with better overall health.
In 2022, males aged 15–24 tended to experience more social isolation and loneliness than females.
Psychosocial disability is an umbrella term for disability that arises from a mental health issue.
It's not just about having a diagnosis of a mental health condition, but how that condition interacts with someone's social environment and impacts their ability to function.
Its called a disability because it's a disabling, often long-term experience of mental health challenges ... impacting a person's life
Psychosocial disabilities can fluctuate and affect people differently, and not everyone who has a mental health condition will also have a psychosocial disability.
Don't allow yourself to be static talk with us, let the healing begin.
